What is a PCIE_X1_1?

So I was looking at my motherboard today to see if it could fit a GTX 760 and I saw some writing beside the AMD Radeon HD 7350 (crap) GPU I have in there now and it said PCIE_X1_1 and I was just wondering what it means because all the newer GPUs say they use a PCIe 3.0 16x Express Slot or whatever.

There is usually a PCIe x1 port above the x16 and some others elsewhere -- you can tell since they are like 1" long. Don't worry, you cannot confuse the two.

There are different sizes of PCIe slots, based on how many channels or "lanes" they contain. A GPU fits in to a 16 lane slot while other devices like sound cards or network cards or whatnot don't need that much bandwidth and use single-lane slots. There are also grades in between (x4; x8) which aren't often seen in consumer products.

The extra _1 at the end probably indicates it's the the first such slot on the board.

Mine has a PCIE_X1_1, a PCIE_X1_2, and a PCIE_X1_3...

You see that next to each of the really short slots (with a different number at the end: _1, _2, etc). That just indicates there are multiple PCIe x1 slots available.

Those slots can be used for a variety of different kinds of cards, though not graphics cards (which require full-length x16 slots)

Acer Aspire M3970G with an i5-2320 and an AMD Radeon HD 7350, I want to play Modded Skyrim, Mafia 2, Minecraft, Payday 2, Rust, Day Z, World of Warcraft, etc. at 1920x1080 on maxed settings at 45+ fps.

Well it's not a hopeless starting point but that GPU is definitely the weak link. It can be upgraded; do you have a budget for a new card?

Yeah, we were going to buy a GTX 760 4GB but from another thread I started they say it won't fit in my case and from this one it looks like my motherboard won't even be able to support a new GPU.

Well it will be able to support a new card if you remove the current one first, LOL. Anyway you have a couple of options. You will need a bigger case to make a proper gaming system. The current system can be sold to help offset the cost of a new rig from scratch.

You don't need 750W unless you plan on SLI in the future. A 650 from a highly regarded brand is a bit less
