That particular version?

All Barracuda drives larger than 1TB use Shingled Magnetic Recording, which is a lot slower when re-writes are required. Fine for bulk storage and retrieval, not great for an OS, RAID array, and other potentially dynamic tasks.

Barracuda Pro drive is the standard recording type with non-overlapping tracks. Also up there on the silence measurement.

I don't think you are going to find anything much cheaper though.

I would highly consider an SSD in its place, you can get 2TB for $150 at the moment.

I'm using a 2TB Toshiba 7200 rpm HDD - the only CMR model I could find that's not in the premium price class. I got it last month for the equivalent of US$63 and it's noticeably faster than the Seagate ST2000DM005 I'd been using.

The model number is HDWD120UZSVA. It's not the quietest drive I've known. I can hear it accessing late at night when the room is very quiet but not otherwise. It doesn't bother me but YMMV.
