What is a st31000340as

My computer was copying a DVD and it quit reading all disks. Upon doing a hardware diagnostic, the CD-ROM Random Seek test stated "no media" under the ST3000340AS test. Is my E: drive fried?

You can try a firmware update. It looks like a hard drive issue from Seagate. I believe Seagate may have problems and posted a list of affected drives. But I can't access the link.
