It's complicated, and I'm no expert, but here's my vague knowledge on the
subject. Note that I may be incorrect, but hopefully, someone who knows
better will correct any mistakes.

The Enigma Berry doesn't technically exist in the sense that the other
berries exist. It's basically a default berry. If you scan in certain
e-cards using the e-card reader, it'll give you brand-new berries. These
berries REPLACE the Enigma Berry. The sole purpose of the Enigma Berry,
therefore, is to be replaced by different berries.

Colosseum actually has these special berries for sale. Pokémon with enigma
berries, however, can NEVER BE TRADED - not between Ruby and Sapphire, not
to and from Coli, not no never nothing not.

So, yeah, like Adrian said - it's an enigma.

Are these actually enigma berries, or just berries you can't get in Ruby/
Sapphire? What are the names of some of the enigma berries you get from
cards?

As I understand it, you scan a berry card in with the E-Reader, and plant
the berry. If you scan in another berry, it will replace the planted berry,
and all held (Enigma) berries. There are web sites that have a berrydex,
and the good ones will tell you how long the berries take to grow.

So you find out which of your berries grows in the least amount of time,
plant it, doubling your berries so you have lots. Make some Pokeblocks.
Scan in another (longer growing) berry, make some Pokeblocks. Repeat. Go
back to the short growing berry whenever you are running low.
