Does the motherboard support DDR3?

Honestly, you will probably not see any difference in the overall computer performance from your daily computer usage.

Increasing to 4GB might be a better option.

For LGA 775 sockets, I won't run anything over DDR2 800. The chipset sees little to no benefit in running DDR2 1066 & only few boards support DDR3 (how well has always been in question... IMO).
