What is better in a large house? Multiple wifi networks or one extended/repeated network?

We live in a rather large house and our router is not strong enough to cover the whole house. For some reason my family set up 3 different routers all with their own wifi network. We only have one ISP though.

It makes no sense to me. The normal way to do it is one router with one or more repeater/extender, right? Which way is better for our needs? Does having multiple networks lessen the load on each and lead to faster speeds or is it pointless?

I'm not the one who set up our wifi. I just came home to this and think it's strange. Plus, having to know and enter multiple wifi passwords is somewhat annoying.

Solution
If the three WIFI sources are connected via ethernet cable and on different channels then that is optimum. The combined wireless load is converted back to wired from distributed sources. Wired has much higher capacity than WIFI.

What about getting a professional access point if you can find it way below MSRP? I was in the same situation and had to use for different APs tpo cover my house, then I found this enterprise outdoor AP, installed, configured and it easily reaches everywhere (including the neighbor's house)

I think they sell it on Amazon for under $300, it comes at $2,000 MSRP, lol.
