I'll explain it in a different and non technical way to see if you understand more clearly as many people should know what BIOS is.

BIOS is basically what runs off your computer's motherboard, What does it do exactly? Well. it controls the hardware and normal is a simple software which gives directions and instructions to the hardware to then make the hardware in your computer (For example a CPU) to function faster at slower speeds (Clocks), this would be called overclocking.

So it short words, the BIOS is what controls the computer and the motherboard, if you never had windows or mac etc. installed on your computer, your system would automatically lead you to it's BIOS.

BIOS: Basic Input Output System

In the most basic sense, this is the software that is pre-loaded on the motherboard. Also called firmware.
