What is committed ram?

So I was poking around in taskmgr.exe, and I saw an entry: committed(MB) 2932/8131
What is this supposed to mean? I know it would dip down to 2048 or so after RAM heavy gaming like Minecraft

Committed RAM means that RAM is reserved for a process.

In other words...it's being used and it is not free.

I believe Committed RAM is just another way to say, dedicated Ram. I know some Graphics Cards have Dedicated ram or in other-word RAM installed onto the Graphics card. When talking about on a laptop Dedicated RAM is RAM which is intergraded into the Motherboard. In these cases, both integrations for the graphics card and the motherboard would be committed to such. Take care in buying laptops with dedicated memory as some will not have the slots for Stand-alone RAM.
