What is d sub and why is my computer telling me something is only available in that signal

A pop up on my lg monitor keeps telling me something (don't know what) cannot be used and is available in D-SUB signal only. It pops up repeatedly and then goes away for a bit but cannot figure out how to stop it. Very annoying.

D-Sub is the name for the VGA (analog) input:

Can't help you with the rest w/o knowing what the error message is exactly. Maybe not even then, if it is simply a defect in the monitor's pgm.
How are you connected to the monitor, DVI, HDMI, Display port?

I was having a similar problem that I haven't been able to solve. I plugged a VGA cord from my desktops motherboard into my monitors VGA port and it is telling me it isnt available. Is their any way to make this work?

Is the cable any good? Do you have a discrete card sitting in the PCIex16 slot? What are the specs of your system?
