So I had mistakenly plugged my case rbg cord that powers lights, instead of my lights, into my rgb header on mobo, and caused a short witch smoked slightly and smelled, immediately turned off CPU. After i unplugged and rebooted the CPU, first a red screen then windows began booting but there was red distortions all over the screen. Shut down and sent mobo for RMA, was told that it wasn't significantly damaged.

Waiting for it to come back from rma and trying to figure out what's wrong

Tested GPU in another computer and its fine.

My HDMI cord in a back up
Computer started going to a permant black screen, until I restart computer, after launching games, two days later (but swapping out cord fixed this issue)

Maybe my cord was the cause of red screen? I didn't see red again but I stopped using it in two days.

Could the power have jumped lanes and shorted my CPU during the rgb short?

Would the voltage regulartor blow on the mobo before a power surge would reach CPU? If so and the mobo is fine does that mean CPU is safe?

CPU ram and everything else appears normal. The only a slight scorch on mobo backside.

Z270F mobo and i7 7700k CPU

Thoughts ?
