What is DD-WRT?

I am interested in getting a new router to replace my old NETGEAR Router WGR614v10. So far, http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR841N-Wireless-Router-300Mpbs/dp/B001FWYGJS/ref=sr_1_1?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1408037101&sr=1-1 has caught my attention. But I am reading reviews with updates to DD-WRT. What is that? Some sort of firmware? Would it be complicated to update?

it is an open source firmware update that lets you router do much more that the original firmware allows. I did this to one of mine to make it a gatway.... But I won't lie the setup under DD-wrt is allot more involved since you have like thousands of settings you can tweak instead of a few walled in options you normally have.. The update is quite simple though you just go ti their website and grab the firmware for your router and update just like you update any firmware on a router.
