What is Direct3D and how do I get it?

Hello,
I wish to play Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold. (A game reccomended by my friend) When I try to play it, a window pops up and says "Could not find any compatible Direct3D devices" What is Direct3D and how do I get it?

Direct3D is part of the windows operating system and is used to generate 3D graphics. It should already exist in your windows installation.

Run dxdiag.exe. On the display tab, Direct3D acceleration should be enabled. You can click the "test Direct3d" button to verify it's working ok.

make sure your graphics drivers are also up to date!

As a last resort, you can download and install the latest directx runtimes. Make sure to check the system requirements first and create a restore point before installing.
