What is going on in a bad floppy drive?

after calling the floppy it rotates and makes some cycle: 1sec applyes some power, 1 sec waits and again. It goes long time (for 1 min) After that it say "the disk is not formatted do u want to format?" It can not format either

Do you need to use a floppy disk? I would get a DVD player and some DVD's. I am pretty sure they don't even make floppy disks anymore, and i'm pretty sure it's because it's so slow. No offence.
