Ok so I am almost finished with my pc build and was checking on prices for the gtx 1070 to the gtx 1080 and everywhere I go they say sold out did I miss out on something or have I just lost my mind?

Solution
Yeah, no wonder - what's the MSRP of a 1070TI? $450-$500 IIRC?

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Nsbkcf/zotac-geforce-gtx-1070-ti-8gb-amp-extreme-video-card-zt-p10710b-10p

So, the cards that were <$500 have sold out.

You can spend another $100 if you want, with OutletPC and Newegg marketplace sellers gouging people.

Then it becomes a matter of justification.
If you'll spend $550 or so on a 1070TI, a 1080 is only $580.

Then looking up to a 1080TI you're another +$170 for reference...

Other than the holiday period, which retailers are likely still restocking from, I don't think you've missed anything?

There's still available of *some* models, just not the cheaper models..... so yeah, I would suspect it's just down to people buying them over the holidays.

Which makes sense to me it just seems like last Friday I was checking prices and was getting the money together to go buy one once I get paid this week and now they have just vanished I understand the whole bitcoin mining craze is helping everything gets sold it just seemed a little odd.

Yea kinda it just depends on when they release them and the cost my computer basically needs the ram and graphics card then its ready to be built.

Well to answer your question, Nvidia GPUs have been in shortage for some time now thanks to cryptocurrency miners snapping up those GPUs. I don't see that trend letting up either. I'm not sure where you are (US, Europe, etc.), but here in the US we have many online retailers to choose from. I have found that B&H Photo has been the best at keeping the GTX 1070s/1080s in stock compared to say NewEgg or Amazon. But yes like the other guy said, the holiday sales really depleted inventory.

Alright and yes I'm in the US I will have to check B&H I see them listed in pc part picker but didn't know how much credibility they had with pc parts.

I'd just pick up a standard 1070 for nearer $450 *IF* I had to buy something right now.

Otherwise, wait.

Yea that's understandable on the whole pricing thing but I personally just don't want to wait anymore I have been building this computer since last October and I am just needing something that will last me for like another 5 years especially since this is my first ever build.

I am with Sensation on this. I have the 1070 and while it is a very nice card. I would not pay 450 for it when the ti is out there. I would just be patient and keep an eye on the retaliers for the 1070ti to come back in stock. the stock is in and out almost daily
