Hair over $20 for upto @ 20% performance increase, that's honestly a no brainer with Ryzen cpus. Ryzen uses 'Infinity Fabric' its a newly designed type of Hyperthreading, and makes much better use of higher speed ram than Intel's version does, so it can...
That's hard without Ryzen 3. A Ryzen 5 build doesn't really work:

Split between amazon and newegg. About the same as the other build. Just hard to fit a Ryzen build inside $600 without the R3's.

That's as cheap as I'd go. For Amd.
This would be low as I'd go with intel

Well to be fair, in the past an extra $100 or so got you moved from an i5 to an i7, which on a low end build may or may not really have been to any advantage. With these builds the extra $ gets you moved from a piddly dual core pentium to cpu that is i7 compatible, and if you could bump up to the 1600 you'd be looking at a cpu that is not only i7 equitable, but under some circumstances, blows it away. Me? I'd eat Raman noodles for a month to swing the budget in my favor and get the R5 1600.

What no one is asking is important to your bottom line price...

- Do you have an OS license? If not, add $140
- Do you have a case you can reuse? save $$
- Do you have a good power supply that can work for awhile? save $$
- Do you have an HDD/SSD that can be reformatted for the new OS? save $$$
- Do you have one or more storage drives to port over? save $$

I would try to get the R1600 if possible, the 1500x at the least.

Yes I do agree that faster ram does help with certain applications. However with faster ram, comes a higher price. Add $20-$40 dollars for 3200 ram.

Win10 license isn't $140, unless you want Pro version.
