Hello

Im not sure if my specs are showing up correctly so just to be safe ill list them

Asus gtx 1080 ti founders edition
I7 6700k (oc to 4.6ghz) (but i get the same performance on stock too)
Asus maximus viii hero
2x8gb ddr4 corsair vengance lpx 2666
Xfx pro series xxx 850w
Samsung sm951 m.2 ssd 128gb
1tb wd black hdd
Zalman z11 plus
Cryorig h7
1080p 60hz monitor (i usualy run games with vsync but i turned it off to test fps)

My problem is that some of my games run normaly while others have like terrible performance
the witcher 3 all maxed out 1080p with some graphics mods (like compilation) 110 fps if i turn vsync off
Also shadow of war all maxed out 1080p 129fps average

While games like starcraft 2 ~15-20 fps average also in total war warhammer 2 in the full map view (not in real time battle mode) there are 2-5 seconds of freezes this happens in civilization 6 too

All my temps are normal 60-70C on gpu and 40-60C on cpu in games

except for starcraft 2 in that game for some reason my gpu is siting on 30C cpu around 45-50C (but only 1 core is on heavy usage not 100% thou but around 80%)

Neither my ram nor my vram is fully used

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?
Thank you! :)

In my case that got it out of the sleep state of the gpu, When I was playing rollercoaster tycoon, the gpu didnt kick in.

Well it happens sometimes a graphics card doesnt get fully utilized untill you turn it manually up, ive got this especially with older games.

Whats wrong with this piece of advise?

My standard answer aside from those whole temps and psu stuffs:
Check if you have everything on performance mode and not on energy saving model from control panel and nVidia control panel for everything mainly on processor and graphic card.

SC2 special answer, run that game only on 32bit mode. The 64bit mode has often issues.
or check here:

Warhammer I dunno...sorry

I think it sort of worked fps about 40-50 in starcraft 2 now gpu 45C

Core is on 1500mhz (i oced it to the max stable so in other games its 2050mhz thou) i oced the memory too to 6100mhz interestingly memory usage went down to 900mb from 2500mb after this
Gpu usage is still ~20% thou

Cpu usage on 1 core went up to 90-95%

Are you on Win10? Assuming.

Could try disable fullscreen optimisation (win10) in certain games that behave poorly, might have something to do with it. https://mspoweruser.com/tip-fullscreen-optimizations-might-hurting-game-performance-windows-10/

Disable Xbox recording app

Prefer max performance in Win and Nvidia as suggested

If need to use Vsync, try Fast sync instead and turn vsync option off in-game.

How do you make afterburner force a card from one power state to another?

Wouldn't be because of overclocking thats for sure. Think he means need to trick the gpu from falling asleep so upping graphics using mods for old games or even using dsr would be my guess. Think supernin coincidentally did something like that and thought oc forced power states.

Im on borderless with starcraft (looks better imo) i think fullscreen optimization dont affect me but ill disable it anyways x)

My xbox app was never enabled it wanted me to sing in with an account so i disabled it when i set up my computer

Im on prefer maximum performance this is not a laptop afterall xP

Thank you ill try fast sync

Can the gpu just fall asleep thou?
I thought its doing everything as fast as it can at all times if the cpu is keeping up
With 90-95% usage on 1 core of the cpu and 20% usage on gpu im guessing the gpu cant do anything to make the game run better in this case :/

Well if i didnt oc
Than if its doing over 1500mhz than its also over or at 1860mhz
and im gpu limited

If its under 1500mhz than its usually at 1418 and im "vsync limited"
except in starcraft 2 where its not a locked 60fps even thou gpu is not at full speed
