So, my question is: What should i change to make my pc better? What should i prioritize? What is bottle necking it?
My specs are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 3.3GHz Sk1151

GRaphics: MSI GTX970 Gaming 4GB

Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING

Ram:Kingston Hyperfury DDR4-2400MHz 8Gb
Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2400MHz 8Gb

SSD: Samsung 2.5" 750 Evo 250 Gb
Samsung 2.5" 750 Evo 250 Gb

Power: Corsair VS650W

Nox Hummer ZX

P.S: I was thinking of getting an I5 8400, any thoughts on that?

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

I thought the i5 8400 had a better value/cost than the i7 7700 and the speed difference wasn't very big. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8400-vs-Intel-Core-i7-7700/3939vs3887

I agree with you now lol. I'd move up to the 1070.

So you would advise me to go for a GTX 1070 (for example) a more powerful Psu and keep the CPU as it is?

Depends on what price you get for each.
For 7700/7700k, you wont have to change the board. You can run it on your current z170 with a BIOS update.
For 8400 you have to get a new board as well.
So, bot are good options, but it depends on the price to performance ratio.

What board would i have to change to?

Coffeelake chipsets are b360/h310/h370/z370.

Your z170 mainboard has a cpu limit of a I7-7700k the I5-8400 will not work on it.
If you must upgrade get a I7-6700k or 7700k your GPU is ok at 1080p.
If you want to run 1440p or 2160p get the gtx 1070/1070ti or 1080/1080ti.
If you want the new 8th gen CPU like the I5-8600k or I7-8700k you will need a new mainboard like a z370.

There are a few different types of z370, any major difference?

There are differences in bus speeds/codecs/power cycles/etc. But you dont need a more expensive z370 board, unless you are buying a unlocked(K) chip. Ant decent b360/h310/h370 should do.

I dont understand why the other guys are recommending a new CPU, yours is fine and youll see zero performance boost upgrading the cpu alone.

If you get a better graphics card, you will see better FPS.

I don't see any compelling reason to get a new motherboard to use an 8400 over just getting a 7700k and keeping your current motherboard. Sure, you could eventually upgrade to an 8700k, but it makes more sense to switch to a new platform when you get a significant perfomance boost, something significantly better than the best of Coffee Lake.

But even then, whats the point of getting a 7700k while using a gtx 970? The performance difference is going to be practically 0 in games unless he had a much more powerful GPU.

Well, he's about to buy a whole new motherboard for an 8400, so want to talk him off that ledge first!

I fully agree that a GPU upgrade would get more bang for the buck.

What GPU should i buy in the same range as the gtx970 price?
