what is LSA executable?

Can anyone tell me what is LSA executable (lsass.exe)? Because lately my firewall keeps reporting of an inbound UDP connection trying to access this and I have no idea what is, but it looks kinda weird. I cant imagine any programs using this?

Can anyone help?
