What is maximum resolution of CRT or LCD or Plama?

Hi everybody,

I would like to know if somebody of you know the maximum resolution (size of "dots") in today (2005) monitor.

When I see CRT with .26 mm dot well it make me laugh compare to what a printer do.
It would be so great that a day monitor reach 9600 dpi.
So for a 30" x 20" monitor, we would need 17,280,000 (30 inches x 20 inches x 9600 dot/inch x 3 bytes/dot - I suppose same resolution for horizontal and vertical)

To play a game at least 30 Fps we would need to "show" 518,400,000 dots/s. And they are not calculus again. So our actual machine are very slow now...

I believe the lowest dot pitch I've seen is .22 on a hitachi tube. The highest resolutions I've seen are 2048x1536 for CRTs and 2560x1600 for LCDs.

You make me laugh a lot with your "Precious".
It's a good idea.

We are "to Galaxy" to what a 35 mm film (in photo) can give:

But some can ask WHY to have so much resolution since play game at 1600 x 1200 is good.

Well more resolution is high more details are good.
And when you make a zoom you can continue see details and not "big bad ugly square/polygons".

But sure CPU AND Video card AND memories NEED to be a lot strong before we can reach and play 240 pixels/mm.

I myself like the idea of playing games at the heighest resolution possible... but anything past 1600 x 1200 is going to make too much of a differance.

but what your saying about zooming in...has me totally confused... do you mean zooming in with your head to the screen?

wouldn't it just be easier to render what your zooming into correctly as you do it(software solution) then decreasing the dot pitch to nothing. Hard solution/problem)

I had a Samsung 17" monitor with .20dp, I did the math and thought "1600x1200 max sounds conservative" so I forced unsupported modes and tried 1920x1440, it worked fine at that resolution. But try reading anything without using a magnifying glass on a 17" monitor at that resolution!

Everything was perfectly clear too, I actually had to put my face around 2" from the monitor to check out the clarity at that resolution. But I'd already done the math, the pixels were small enough, I just had to find out if the rest of the monitor could handle the stress.

To determine the sharp horizontal resolution of a CRT, take the width of the viewable image, divide by screen's dot pitch, and divide by about 1.25 to allow for scanning error. (That's a rule of thumb for aperature grill monitors.)
