Hello,

I am trying put a build together for my brother who is wanting to do some low-end professional/amatuer video editing on the side in like 1080p and maybe 4k.

What would be necessary for a video editing pc, and if you have any budget builds, what are they?

Trying to get black friday and cyber monday sales!

Thanks you so much for reading!

I am going to assume adobe suite, in which you will want a 3rd generation AMD Ryzen CPU and nvidia GPU in many cases.

Ryzen 3700x on a mid-level x570 board paired with 32gigs (2x16) of ram, a fast 512gig or 1T NVMe m.2 SSD, a second 2T sata m.2 drive in the second m.2 slot for storage, and a solid mid level GPU.

With Win 10 Pro, a good Seasonic PSU, mid tower case, and a decent 1920x1080 IPS monitor you should be around 1400-1700 dollars.

Of course you can easily edit video on a Ryzen 5 system with lower end parts but then you'll have to sit and wait longer...that's where you have choices and decisions...how long do you want to wait for files to process vs speeding money.
