i know its been long time this post but here is info on the npfs.sys.
Applications or services that rely on the Named Pipe File System (Npfs.sys) may encounter latency or time-out issues when many connections are made to a named pipe in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).
For example, you may find that print jobs are handled slowly or that the jobs time out and fail on a Windows Server 2008-based print server.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when too many connections are made to a named pipe. When this occurs, the Named Pipe File System takes a long time to find clients that are in the listening state.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install the following hotfix. After you install this hotfix, the NPFS maintains a new list that contains only the clients in the listening state. This new list can resolve this latency issue.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
