What is particle count?

If you could help me i would like to know what "particle count" is and if its the same thing as "partical cap"

it will help if you explain in what context this is referring to.
i dont know what partical cap is but particle usually refers to something that's being emitted by something else.
examples: the bullets that are fired in a game, the sparks from a fire, dust drifting up, etc etc
it usually refers to something that eventually disappears
particle count refers to the amount of particles on the screen or being processed.
