What is perc controller and why i need perc controller to configure raid?

Dear Friends,
We planned to buy one dell power edge server. In the quote of the server i seen this perc controller.
I don't know what is perc controller, and why it need to configure raid. Please share your knowledge guys.

The Perc controller IS the RAID controller for Dell servers. That is why you need it.

Dell Servers often have a simple raid controller included and optional RAID controllers available

you have to give exact model of perc controller to know what it is capable of

I have not used one for years they were for SCSI Raid 5 with hot swap and hot spare

I expect modern ones support SAS + SATA drives

The first thing about the PERC controllers is that they are 12Gb SAS. If your config has SAS disks then you need the PERC. The motherboard has the capability to support SATA disks with the onboard.
