What is preventing Epson Scan software from installing (DELL vs ASUS)

Greeting to All,

I bought an Epson Perfection V550 so I can scan some old 35mm slides solely because the write up stated that the software would install on Windows XP.

The software that came with the scanner, for some reason, will not install on my Dell Inspiron 1501, which has Windows XP Media Center Edition installed. The software installation seems to hang up while installing the Epson Scan software yet all other software on the CD installs with NO problems.

I decided to bring the software CD to work and install it on one of my stand alone computers that I use for software development and debug. This ASUS computer has Windows XP Professional installed on it. Interesting enough the software installs with no hitches whatsoever. Absolutely no hang ups.

My question is, what could be preventing the software from installing on the Dell? Also, What are the main differences between Windows XP MCE and Windows XP Professional? Hopefully someone out there has come across this issue or a similar issue with regards to my posting.

If any requires additional information please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing what the community has to offer me with any possible solutions.

Thank you.

John

XP MCE is based on XP home, so you don't get the features of pro. I don't think this is why the software isn't installing, though.

Greetings 190221,

Yes the virus software on both were disabled per the software installation instructions. Thank you for asking I forgot to mention that in the original posting.
