What is safe temps for a 7700K

I've recently installed my 7700K and noticed that when I'm playing games it stays in the high 70s with peaks over 80 every minute or so. It also has idle temps of about 40-55 My old processor ran at much lower temps so that's why I am wondering if this one is getting to hot. I'm running the processor stock at the moment and using the Cryorig M9i for cooling.

That's a boarderline cooler for running a 7700k. Would have expected a bit lower temps but not a ton. It would need great rest of case airflow to perform with an overclock

Yea, I wasn't planning on overclocking or anything with this cooler, but for the time being would those temps be ok?

Yes as long at it's not sitting in the 85° range 24/7 you should've fine. If it was set up doing renders 12 hoursna day I'd be nervous but that'll be fine

In my opinion those temps are high I have the same CPU and the only time I hit around 80C is if I stress test what are your temps when rendering? if they are higher I would work on airflow depending on how many case fans you have running.

safe... yes.
A cpu will slow down or shut off if it reaches a dangerous temperature.
That is about 100c.

What can cause damage is a high vcore. Up to about 1.4v is as far as you should go.

Coolers with 92mm fans tend to be noisy and not particularly efficient.
The H7 with a 120mm fan would have been better.

I suspect you may not have mounted the cooler well.
I expect to see 10-15c. over ambient at idle from most any cooler.
Perhaps you used too much paste, did not tighten the cooler down evenly, or perhaps your case fans are not supplying sufficient intake air.

Even if 80C is fine for gaming if you use your PC for other things that will push the CPU harder it might hit close to 100C which you don't want I would take geo's advice and make sure you have your CPU on correctly before doing anything else.

Download and install CPUID HWMonitor. Keep it running in the background and after gaming or any stress related program [an hour or more] check your temperatures and Vcore voltage. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Please post back with how much voltage your Vcore is and what case and how many fans in the case.
