What is SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM and RIMM memory?

What is SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM and RIMM memory? Are these some kind of old ram sticks that are predecessors of the DDR RAMs?

DIMMs are modern memory modules. Dual inline memory module. These are what MOST current RAM consists of.

SODIMMs are the same, but in smaller configurations with fewer pins for laptops and other small devices.

SIMMs are old, single inline memory modules, and were what memory modules commonly consisted of in the 80's and 90's.

RIMM is Rambus RDRAM inline memory modules and was a different type of memory, not consistent with all mainstream standards but used on a variety of Intel platforms around the 2000-2002 Pentium 4 days. Rambus is something of a running joke as a failure with the PC tech industry. The company that made it is also currently listed as a scam company and is widely considered to be a laughing stock. Depending on who you ask.
