Windows may create two additional partitions during the installation process in addition to the main C: partition.

The first partition is the recovery partition and is around 300MB in size. This is a separate, self contained Windows installation which contains a minimal feature set of debugging, diagnostic, and repair tools. HI

If drive letter d: exists then it probably can be viewed using windows explorer

If you can find disk management ( via control panel or Google) you can see if d: is located on SSD or hard drive

Without a lot more info it is difficult to say more
Is this a laptop or desktop
What make & model ?
Did it come with ssd ? Or did you fit it

Many PCs have hidden recovery partitions

Toshiba windows 7 laptops often put recovery files in folder on second partition which is visible and has drive letter d:

You get prompt to make recovery DVD set until you turn this prompt off or make set of DVDs
