What is the average time to upgrade your CPU and GPU?

My brother has an I7 3770 non K version CPU with a basic MOBO(nothing special) and a EVGA gtx 960 2gb. How long do you guys wait to upgrade those two components? Thank you all for your input, I am just trying to get a feel how long we should wait to upgrade.

There is no average time, and in fact that setup should work fine for most stuff today at 1080p. You upgrade when you notice your games start to get slow, choppy, or run poorly.

for CPUs, assuming you didn't buy a garbage low end one or that your use case didn't change, you should only bother thinking about an upgrade after 4 generations.

GPUs, frankly just a matter how much you care about max settings and max FPS. If it matters to you, every generation. If it doesn't matter, then whenever you feel like it.
