The 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM I had in my build just went up in price from $60 to $74. I doubt its considered the best value anymore. What is the best value on 8GB RAM now?
$50 for 8G is as cheap as i've seen it recently and i jumped on 16G when it was avail. if you're not in a rush, wait for another week or two for the whole boxing day stuff.

Boxing day is pretty much exclusive to the UK and Commonwealth countries. I believe the OP is in the US. 😉
Does the speed of the RAM have an influence on performance or just how fast loading times are?

Yeah I'm from the States. Can't say I've ever heard of boxing day!
RAM speeds depend on the CPU. The memory controller is on the CPU now with both Intel and AMD processors. Intel Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs roughly need DDR3 1600-1866 as do AMD FX chips. Haswell likes faster RAM up to DDR3 2400 if you can afford it as do AMD APUs.
DDR speeds apparently make very little difference. LinusTechTips on youtube did a comparo:

Awesome! So 1333 should be just fine?

What do you mean by "need"? Is 1333 incompatible or noticeably detrimental with FX chips in any way?
