Hello everyone,

most people refer to the ASUS Maximus Extreme VI as the best Intel based mobo for competitive gaming. What is the best AMD based motherboard(s) for the same purpose? MSI Z97 or may be ASUS Crosshair Formula V?

Here are my current specs including the mobo which I am still using:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE 990XA-UD3 (rev 3.0)
CPU: AMD FX-8350 @4.2 GHz
RAM: 2 x 8GB G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-2133
Graphics: Sapphire R9 280X 3GB GDDR5
Storage: 1 x SSD OCZ Vector + 2 HDDs Western Digital 500 GB

Thanks for the help!

I wouldn't think the mobo would make a difference in a competitive gaming environment. You would be more limited by your display's refresh rate and response time, your mouse lag, and your keyboard input lag, which can all be reduced to almost zero with the right equipment. The mobo wouldn't contribute much to system latency.
Doesn't matter. They're all printed circuit boards which let each of the components talk to each other.

You could argue higher quality parts or different RAM channels may help but the only thing I've seen that would convince me for one board over another are some of the "Gaming" ethernet ports, which can priorities gaming over downloads or other things that want the internet.

As an end user you won't notice a difference. Buy a motherboard for the connectors you want first of all and then maybe on board sound, wifi, and then overall looks if you have a windowed case.
