I have a hp Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower with a Hewlett Packard 3032h and a Q45/43 chipset and I what to know what is the most powerful LGA 775 CPU I can get for gaming . Maybe a LGA 771 Xeon if it's even compatible or a Q9650 I don't know.

Problem with OEM PCs (Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc) is that they don't always support every CPU of a generation like aftermarket motherboards do (just because a CPU is LGA775 doesn't mean your machine will support it.

Unless your budget is super tight ($50 or less, aka dinner for 2) I'd recommend ditching your old dinosaur and put your money towards a new (and much faster) machine.

As said above, companies like to put limits on what CPUs the board can support. Even if your board supported a QX9650, they are generally priced much higher than a CPU like a Q8400 or even a Q9500 which is just a few mhz slower.

If you are just playing lighter titles, spending $10 on a CPU makes sense given you have a good GPU.

I cannot find processor upgrade info for your system, so your best bet is a Q6600, which was a go to back in the day.
