Hi guys, i would like to know what the best External harddrive is. I need a hard drive that can have a capacity of up to 2TB, is reliable and still a good price. right now i am looking at the WD elements, Seagate backup plus slim, Seagate expansion portable or a Internal SATA hard drive using a SATA to usb adapter like this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Serial-Adapter-Cable-Laptop-Drive/dp/B008AGJKNO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404612525&sr=8-1&keywords=USB+to+SATA

Thanks in advance for any help!

I am going to go on a limb here and say the seagate expansion 3tb. It is 99 dollars, usb 3.0 and I think think it is pretty good. It gets read and writes of about 190 MB/s. It says 1 year warranty, but If you take the drive out of the enclosure it has a 2 year warranty on the actual drive. Never had any issues with smart or anything and I use it as my backup hard drive. If you are serious though I would recommend getting this drive, taking it out of the enclosure, and putting it in another enclosure with a fan because I have seeing it getting up to 42c with long term random writes. If you have any questions about this drive, give me a shout.

thanks for the answer, but i'm not so keen on the idea of changing the enclosure(because it cost more money)

I have just had a Samsung Story 2TB USB3 drive fail.
This drive had video clips on it.

At first I thought Premiere Pro (my NL video editing ap) was playing up, perhaps due to installing some new programs & drivers for other things.

But no, it appears the Samsung Story has now developed some bad sectors which gave the appearance of PP not working or hanging up.

Very frustrating.
I am now buying two WD MyBook drive this afternoon. (I have two of these Samsung Story drives, and want to premempt the other one failing!)

On the other hand, I have three other WD drives, and they have never been a problem.
I will never buy another Samsung HDD again.
