What is the best & fastest SSD to use with the Asus x99 Deluxe motherboard.
I originally planned to utilized a 1 Tb samsung 850pro.
However I wanna utilize the SSD via pcie to make the fastest possible connection by bypassing the chipset & going straight thru the 5960X cpu I will be using.
I plan to use the SSD for a boot drive & would like approx 500gb & intend to use a 2nd largerHD for storage of movies & pix etc...
I have read M.2 x4 ssd is the way to go & possibly the plextor model...
will the 850pro not work as I hope.?
What is the best SSD & ssd setup/type to make for the fastest boot drive on this setup?

I am building 2 identical computers & wanna get this right. I already have the Nvidia quadro k6000 & a Tesla card for video...

You could go with a PCIe drive; however, the 850 Pro is a friggin beast on its own. I own the 256gb version and I pull around 562 read and 533 write on benchmarks. The 10 year warranty and the 3D NAND do not hurt either! I would wait on purchasing a PCIe drive until prices go down and you can get a decent storage size for a reasonable price.

Honestly though, are you using it for a scratch / video editing disk and are you transferring between disks at all? If you are using it for games and a boot drive you will really not notice the difference in speed. My PC boots up to usable desktop in less than 7 seconds with my 850 Pro.

I'm considering using the Plextor m6e m.2 for boot drive in 512 configuration. It is supposed to be sequential read speeds of 770MB/sec and sequential write speeds of 625MB/sec. It also comes with a 5year warranty.

With the exception of the Samsung 941 m.2 I think this is the fastest current option out there. Granted the 941 is supposed to be slightly faster since it x4 vs plextor x2. However it is more expensive & I hear is much harder to actually get since is used as an oem drive & thus will not come with a warranty from the manufacture...
