What is the best GPU for my budget?

I am willing to go up to $260. I want the most performance for my money, and power consumption is not that big of a deal, however, I only have a 550W PSU. I was thinking I should get an R9 280X, but people keep telling me to get a GTX 960.

280x is far more powerful than 960 when it comes to pure performance. It is the better choice.

They do make a 4gb version of the 960 but with only a 128-bit memory bus not sure how effective it would be, but its within budget and uses a low amount of power.

The 280(x) would probably be a better cohice.

If you are willing to do Mail In rebate, you can get a R9 290 for $250 bucks ($280 without MIR), best GPU for this price point. Its from MSI too so reliable company.

But you may have to upgrade your PSU possible with this card. According to this, a 550w PSU will be able to run it, but it have to be a good quality one.

Get the R9 280X! It is a lot stronger for the price.
