i've read tom's reviews on panels for a while. i have a viewsonic pro 19" i think that just died on me so i need a new one. this was like a 2grand monitor as it was one of the first 19"s to be made.

prices have dropped incredibly, but i have never been able to make out the leader of the pack now a days. i think tom had an article recently that said the new viewspnic 191B i think was the standard to be compared to now or something.

i just don't want to buy a panel and then find out i could have gotten something better for a couple bucks more afterwords.

.adam.

yep i think the 191b is the new standard here. but not for long. there will be 2ms panels next, then 24 inchers with blazing response times, then widescreens, then even bigger hdtv's...its great. and new innovations, check out LumiLED LCD Display here:

untill lcd's reach maturity(in a few years?)there will always be something new/better every couple of months. be prepared to loose money if you buy. dont go for the high end stuff. its way overpriced as they are trying to recoup the r&d expenses and you are going to loose even more money there.

hi there...
i'm about to build a new system and choosing a monitor is tough!

i'm definitely going for lcd.

Just wandering about the response times. In all the reviews i have read for 8ms monitors, the reviewers have never complained about ghosting in games or bad dvd playback... so is 8ms close enought to perfect that i don't need to consider buying a 4ms monitor?

the reason behind my query is that i'm looking at purchasing the samsung sm214t. a massive 21 inch monitor with 8ms response time.

providing that the difference between 8ms and 4ms is not noticable to the human eye i will definitely go with the samsung... what do you think?

manufacturer's response times mean squat. user opinions mean squat. the only thing that matters is if that little wavy line on the latencey graph here at tom's stays below 16ms - for all colors!. alot of monitors have fallen short.
i just gotta say (as if i havent said it before) that this is one place that people like myself, the common joe can weed through all the hype, find an objective opinion based on empirical and objective inquiry. ok my brown nosing session is over.

60hz = .016ms/frame = 16ms pixel response (time to rise + time to fall) = no motion blur = happy!

you sound like you know what you're talking about...

how about just telling me what to go for, without considering the price?

viewsonic 4ms or samsung sm214t

i have to append my last post now..
response time doesnt mean much without accurate colors. these two are going to be inversly proportional. gamers get the fast panel, photo editors get the color accuracy. regular guys find a medium. i think things are progressing to where we wont have to choose betweent them soon.
