What is the best monitor for $300?

What is the best monitor for $300? I need to buy a monitor this weeked for my wifes birthday. I am thinking a 27". This is for my wife’s mac book so no matter what I will have to buy a mini display port adapter. (She uses it mostly for viewing photos and videos taken with our cannon powershot camera as well as facebook. No gaming/No blu-ray movies)

There is no single best monitor. They are a very subjective thing. If I was buying for myself, I'd get a dell u2312hm. But it's 23" and I think you're looking for something large and impressive.

If sub $300, display port, and 27" are your criteria, I'd go with an asus ve276Q:

But I'd never call it the best $300 dollar monitor.

The u2412m is on sale at $330 this weekend, that one's pretty nice.
