Hi there,

Recently upgraded and have a brand new rig but my old rig has this motherboard.

Acer rs780hvf.

I want to upgrade the CPU and some other components, once I've got some spare cash and just wondered what the best processor I could buy for that board.

Currently I have a AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core 2.2ghz.

Thanks in advance.

Depends what you like to do... I'd fully get a new mobo and cpu imo, maybe an i3/fx6300/8320 and a nice cheap durable mobo 😛 Also any Am2 CPUs should work and it is very hard to buy those CPUs cause they are discontinued :/

Hi thanks for your answer.

I've researched a lot about people upgrading the cpu to this board and it looks like the vast majority of people have come across difficulties.
They seem to get a CPU mismatch error.

It's a bit frustrating really because I've built this new rig and that's fine.
I've got my old rig and put it back together.
Here are the specs
Processor AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core 2.2ghz
Graphics Card Radeon HD5670
Motherboard: rs780hvf
4GB DDR2

I just thought if I could upgrade the processor (maybe a new gfx card make it run slightly better and then I have a second machine for mates to use if we want to LAN or something.
I do have an issue with the old rig though, one that has been present ever since I bought the machine and overtime has gradually worsened. Essentially there are times when this rig runs slowly and there is no explanation for it running slowly. For example if the old machine is on and just sitting there for an hour, and then I load up a chrome or firefox, it will respond slowly with the windows circle appearing. I often get programs not responding. Sometimes if I run a demanding game it runs smoothly, but then sometimes it can run really slowly, and it’s not even because I’m in a graphical area (in game). I was just wondering can this sort of behaviour be down to a faulty CPU, and would it be worth maybe just buying the same CPU for like 26.00 when I've got some cash to burn. - See here

or do you think this issue is unlikely to be down to the processor? One thing I did do was I bent one of the pins in the processor, I ended up bending it back and seems to be ok.
Can this issue also be down to faulty harddrive?

Solution
Hi thanks for your post.

I read the thread, just a shame he did not post back as to whether that processor worked for him on the board.

I think I might try a new harddrive first because even if it doesn't solve the issue it isn't a complete waste of money as I can use the harddrive as more storage.

I highly doubt its a virus as I've formatted multiple times and still have the same issue.

Don't know really what to do about the processor?
