What is the best possible FM2+ socket cpu i can get for gaming ?

Im planning on upgrading my current cpu (AMD A8-5500) and i was wondering what is the best FM2+ socket cpu i could get for gaming.
I have a MSI GTX 970 and an Asrock fm2a88x extreme 4+ motherboard
Any suggestions ?

Would amd a8 7600 work with safire r9 290 tri x?

It will work with it, essentially you'll have an Athlon 750K, because if you use the GPU it will turn off your integrated graphics. I had a build like that a while back. Not a bad combo at all. I think the strongest card I'd want to pair with an Athlon though at this point is an R9 280, anything else is just going to get bottlenecked.
