I just finished building my PC (this was my first complete build) and i'm not seeing the speed increase I hoped I would see. It's faster of course, but I think the speed would really increase if I added a SSD drive to boot my OS from and used my 1 TB HDD for storing the program files on.
The build was pretty easy as far as the mechanical part, but the hardest part was re-loading Windows 7 Home Premium and getting it working on the new PC. I read some hear on the forum about this and so far I haven't had to call MS to get it activated (I read that some members who built new machines had to do that).
I have a MacBook Pro with a 1 TB SSD drive and it loads in seconds so i'm hoping I can speed up my new PC with a SSD for the operating system to boot from. I'm just not sure how to go about re-loading Windows 7 again on the SSD drive and avoiding some of the problems i've already had. One of the issues I had was Windows 7 created 4 huge folders during the re-install (Windows.old, Windows.old 000, Windows.old 001, and Windows.old 002). These 4 folders contained all my original programs and the original OS. I tried to copy them to an external HDD and then delete them, but the first one I tried to delete contained some system files that shouldn't be deleted! I'm not sure how to handle this and if Windows 7 did this again on the SSD it would take up the whole drive!
