Does the DTR version run slower than its non-dtr version?
No, compared to the desktop version Mobile Athlon 64 performs equally. There is 2 Mobile Athlon 64 family, the 35 Watts and the DTR version. 35 Watts A64 runs at 1.2 Volt and are rated at 2700+, 2800+ or 3000+. These one are meant to be in system that need long bettery runtime.
The DTR replacement Mobile Athlon 64 are very similar to the desktop version. They are rated at 81 Watts. So there are less interesting in terms of heat dissipation, because they are nearly identical to their non-mobile version. They don'T have an heatspreader, so you must be careful when installing the HSF, but the contact is direct between the core and the heatsink, which theorically mean a better heat dissipation. Mobile Athlon 64 are available at 2800+, 3000+, 3200+ or 3400+ rating.
and if i slightly oc it, will it negate its cool running advantage? Like 10% on a MSI board.
Actually the DTR will not be much cooler if you buy it with a standard heatsink, but if you pair it with a high-end heatsink, the difference will be noticable. But, the best bet would be to get a 35 Watts Athlon 3000+ with a very good heatsink and a silent fan would surely be silent. Maybe, even the fon could completly shut down if Cool & Quiet is activated. But the 35 Watts Athlon 64 3000+ is nearly impossible to buy on the net...
