What is the Dif. between Slot A and Socket A?

I have been looking at AMD Athalon motherboards... and there are different types. I am looking for an Athalon "C", 1.33ghz, Could someone explain to me what the difference between Slot A and Socket A are? Which is Better? Also... I always see posts of "T-Bird", is that a type of Athalon or a brand... or what exactly is a T-Bird? Thx for the help.

Athlon A -- classic
Athlon B -- t-bird w/ 200 mhz bus
Athlon C -- t-bird w/ 266 mhz bus

i've heard a little about slot t-birds, but i thought the t-bird was almost exclusivly a socket.

The Slot A is the old config , you will not get a Slot A Athlon C. (Good choice BTW) I use an Asus A7M with 512 MB Crucial PC2100 Memory (its real cheap from <A HREF="http://www.crucial.com" target="_new">http://www.crucial.com</A>)

So Slot A is old set up, and Socket A is the newer/better set up? So I would be looking for an AMD Athalon "C" Socket A, now... is that the chip or the motherboard? *I have been getting confused after reading multiple posts*

both the chipsets have moved on, if you want to use the DDR Memory you have a choice of three , all of which will be Socket A

The Socket/Slot is where the CPU fits into the MB. Check out

That does help, would the board that that first link is to support a 1.33ghz chip though? It says for 500mhz-1ghz+, but how high does the "+" reach? Just curious... Also, could someone explain a little bit about what the chipset is... and what the best is? (760/761 chipset?) I am just curious to what exactly that means... Thanks again for your help.

the first board will run a 1.3 no probs I have a 1.2 Athlon-C in one. The 761 is the chipset to go for but remember it only Supports 184 Pin DDR Memory (Get some cheap at <A HREF="http://www.crucial.com" target="_new">http://www.crucial.com</A>). When you look at the MB you will notice that you have many Chips on it some of these ore the chipset , they control the cpu and direct the data from memory and to the cards you have installed, I don't know that much about them so that is about as much as I can say.

If you build a 1.3ghz Athlon-C with 256-512mb Pc2100 ram and put a good Graphics card with it you will have a damn fast Box
