As the title suggests, what exactly is the difference between a shorter 1060 and the regular sized ones, besides their length? Is performance affected in any way by the shorter length?

Solution

there will be no difference clock for clock. the only difference could be that the cards with the larger cooler could boost slightly higher resulting in perhaps 1 or 2 FPS in the best case scenario.
as long as they say full 6GB version you are fine.

So it doesn't affect performance in any significant way? I'm going to buy my 1060 in a pre-built PC from Dino PC and the image that is shown is the shorter card, but they have stated on the website that it is the full 6GB version. So do shorter 6GB cards actually exist?

Yes. There are "full sized" gtx1060's and smaller ones. It's both the same card. The performance shouldn't vary all too much. You should expect higher temperatures on the smaller cards as the cooler will be smaller, too.

An example.

My advice: don't go for the smaller form factor if your case can fit a bigger one.
But also don't be afraid you'll be losing a lot of performance if your case can't fit the bigger one.
