I am building my pc and up to choosing a graphics card. What are the differences in;

series
chipset
memory
core clock

Or do I just assume that the higher the price the better the graphics card?

series will determine which generation is newer. although not all the card inside newer series actually new card. some of them were direct rebrand. in case AMD R 200 series almost all of them were direct rebrand from previous 7k series. other than that there isn't much difference. the OC model will have much higher clock and will command a bit of premium for it. and then 'the ultimate OC model" (the matrix series) that cost much more because of the tweaked PCB and more feature baked onto the PCB for serious overclocker.

Thanks for your reply but I am still confused. I am using pc part picker and under the tabs seris chipset etc- which one should be my first preference. Is memory more improtant than core clock etc.

what is the difference between AMD, NIVIDIA, ROG, STRIX, I can't seem to find it listed anywhere.

well first of in the world of discrete graphic there is only two player left; Nvidia and AMD. Nvidia called their gaming GPU as Geforce and AMD calls them as Radeon. but both company did not sell their graphic card directly to customer. instead they have board partner like Asus, Gigabyte, MSI etc sell the graphic card for them. and this board partner also competes among themselves to win consumer money. the competition among these board partner gives birth to those stuff like ROG series (Republic Of Gamer) and Strix (both were Asus product actually although ROG is not limited to graphic card only).

just like Asus have their Strix series Gigabyte also have something similar like their G1 Gaming series and MSI Gaming series (although the feature among them might not be the same).

depends on your budget. also looking at specific spec like memory or gpu core clock will only make you confuse. just look at your budget and then look at the card that will meet your budget. if you want to know about performance just look at review for that card. of course the Overclocked version of the same card will be a bit faster but they also going to cost a bit extra compared to the one with reference clock.
