What is the difference between the Z97-A, Z97-C, Z97-SR etc etc and which would be best for the 4690k CPU that will be OC

All of those boards could be good overclockers. I have been using the MSI Z97-G45 since June and it is fantastic! The MSI Z97S SLI PLUS adds more pci-e express ports for multiple graphics cards. I wouldnt use the ASUS Z97-A for overclocking, however.

Go with the MSI Z97-G45 or ASRock Z97 Extreme4 for overclocking.
