I use a multi user billing software that is designed to be installed on a Server then workstations users connect to the system through a mapped network drive. Usually on a LAN.

Since I am unable to obtain any internet higher than Att Uverse 3mbps download 0.5 upload, long story short" we were having problems with customers connecting to our server to access their accounts ( I suspect the low internet speeds) I had to install the software on a Remote Server that has high internet speeds.

Our office is currently connecting to the server to access the software through Remote Desktop (RDT). Although we have a great connection, It is very frustrating especially since only 2 people can connect at once through (RDT), we can't print documents and things tend to get messy. I much prefer to access the software the way it is intended through a mapped network drive.

Can I map a network drive over WAN?
If I use VPN will this cause my software to run slow because of the high security?
Would a shared folder work as a mapped network drive?

Can anyone suggest a solution?

I have no experience in setting up a virtual network adapter or a VPN. Do you know of anyone I can hire to do this for me through RDT?

There are two (at least) to establish VPN tunnel between remote networks.
- using server-to-server VPN (and using servers to router traffic between networks)
- using router-to-router VPN
Which way you go depends on what you have available on both sites. If you have Windows Server, a Microsoft expert can set this for you. For routers setup - your routers have to support this on both ends (or just on the remote side, if only one computer needs access).
In any case, I would not trust anyone giwing him/her remote access to set all this up. You better look for on-site consultant.

I am afraid I cannot give you any references.
