I have a heat sink and cooling fan on there now with a celeron 2.4, would that do?

Probably not. You can try it with a monitor program such as coretemp or speedfan, but be aware that these generic monitor programs aren't accurate with all motherboards. If your idle temp is under 50c and load temp is below 70c, then you'll be fine.

Would it be better to get a Northbrook 3.2 or 3.4 instead of the Prescott?

Not much difference in speed; the northwoods do run a little cooler. Check Starmicro and see if they have any in stock. They carry new cpus only.

looking for a compatible processor for p4m800-m7a. (intel pentium4 prescott) is recomended but I am not sure which one ?
