Recently inherited a new laptop that I would like to upgrade the second storage slot in. It has two 2.5 SATA trays and I recently cracked it open to find one of them empty. So I can either slide in my Samsung 850 from my old unit or upgrade to something newer, faster. I found some options online that claim to house and convert M.2 NVME to 2.5 SATA and seem to fit well but I'm unsure if anyone has actually had success doing this as most of these products don't have reviews.

Tldr. What are my best options for speed? I mostly play games and render videos if that helps, I don't even need to boot from the drive I just want fast load times in games.. much thanks in advance

Solution
If it only has SATA III connections, do NOT buy into the magic of converting an NVMe drive to SATA III.
It will still run at SATA III performance.
(magic = snake oil)

It takes 2.5" SATA drives?
Samsung 860 EVO. Or your current 850 EVO.

But is a Samsung 860/850 really the fastest possible option for me??
