What is the folder "Common Files" in Win2K?

I have a folder in my Program Files files in Win2K called "Common Files"

Can you tell me what this folder is used for and if it is safe to delete? Thank you.

Do <b>NOT</b> delete that folder!!! It contains shared components (as the name would imply) that one more app of yours would need. If your folder happens to be empty, that means that no app has dumped anything in there yet.
