I remember reading somewhere that the msrp dropped from 379 to 350 but I do not recall gtx 1070's ever selling for 350.
I am currently looking for used gtx 1070's, and was wondering what counts as a good deal. I want to know what the gtx 1070 prices from the pre-Ethereum era were, as a reference.

Solution
Msrp never dropped. You could find some deals that drop below msrp but that happens with any gpu before the gpu shortage. But they weren't common deals, that's what made them good deals. Pcpp has price trends of components.

The mining craze won't go boom. It's not a bubble and bitcoins proved that many years ago. Unlike bc, ether is asic resistant so it won't slow down any time soon.
search Amazon. check "used" in pricing. checking the available cards will give you average estimates.

currently they are selling "new" at nearly the same price as the base 1080. i paid $375 for mine new 6 months ago and am currently selling it at $399 used. prices have skyrocketed for the GTX 1070 and RX 480\580.

I meant to ask, how much on average were gtx 1070's worth before the Ethereum boom? I already know about what happened to the price afterwards... So are you saying that $375 is the average price from before people started mining? They were never at $350?
