What is the HD Speaker wire for?

Hello all,

I recently purchased an Azza Hurrican 2000 case (http://azzatek.com/csaz-2000.html) and am wondering what the HD Speaker wire is for? The manual is vague on what it is for.

I ask only because it is not long enough to reach the socket in the motherboard I believe it should be plugged in to. I suspect this wire is for the speaker and microphone jacks located in the front of the case. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I'd greatly appreciate anyone's help!

Your mobo should either have a HD Audio connector OR AC'97 Audio Connector (some do have both), and depending upon which you choose, the headphone/mic connector can be utilized for surround audio (I personally don't see why anyone would use the front panel connections for speaker connections - I always use the back) - I would think the AC'97 audio for mic/headphones would be more useful on the front.

 
Thanks ronintexas. As you suggested, I wanted to use the front jacks for a mic/headphone but the cable can't reach from front panel to the pins on the motherboard. i just wanted to verify that the AC'97 cable needed to be plugged into the motherboard to use the front jacks for a mic/headphone setup. Am I understanding this correctly?
 
The wire is tied with a cable tie to other cables, but it looks like even if I released it there no way to route it to the pin without going directly across the front of my motherboard. If I could, I'd prefer not to do that, as I'm trying to route all the cables in the openings behind the case. Is there an extender that can be purchased?
